What a Custom Limestone Drawing Must Show Before Quotation

What a Custom Limestone Drawing Must Show Before Quotation

Moonlight Beige Limestone component reviewed beside plan, elevation and section drawings

A perspective rendering can show what an entrance, facade profile, balustrade or curved column should feel like. It usually cannot show how the stone will be divided, measured, fabricated, joined, supported or packed.

For custom Moonlight Beige Limestone work, the quality of the quotation depends on the quality of the information supplied.

An early budget estimate may be possible from approximate dimensions and reference images. A production-oriented quotation requires more: plans, elevations, sections, component quantities, finish, visible faces and the relationships between pieces.

Start with the scope

Custom limestone scope grouped into panels, profiles, curved pieces and special components

The drawing package should state what Aoli Stone is being asked to supply.

Is the request for:

· Raw slabs

· Standard tiles

· Cut-to-size wall panels

· Profiled bands or surrounds

· Curved cladding

· Handrails, balusters or bases

· Steps and risers

· A mixed package of flat and shaped components

The same material can have very different yield, processing, inspection and packing requirements depending on the supply scope.

Plan: where is each component located?

The plan should show the position, orientation and overall relationship of the pieces.

For curved work, include the centre point, radius and limits of each arc where available. For balustrades or repeated elements, show the run length, spacing direction, corners, ends and changes in level.

A plan also helps identify whether components that look similar in elevation actually have different left, right, inside or outside conditions.

Elevation: what is visible?

The elevation should show the overall arrangement, panel divisions, profile lines, repeated components and important datum levels.

Mark:

· Piece divisions

· Joint positions

· Number or type references

· Visible edges

· Alignment with windows, doors or adjacent materials

· Repeated and special components

If a facade or wall includes several stone types or finishes, identify them clearly rather than relying only on color in the drawing.

Section: what shape must be fabricated?

The section is essential for profiles, handrails, bases, cornices, surrounds and curved elements.

It should define:

· Total width and depth

· Stone thickness

· Grooves, steps and rebates

· Curved faces and radii

· Flat bearing or fixing areas

· Chamfers or edge treatments

· Relationship with the substrate or adjacent piece

Do not use a decorative reference photograph as a substitute for a dimensioned section.

Radius and segmentation

Curved Moonlight Beige Limestone segments reviewed against a blurred radius drawing

For curved stonework, state whether the drawing radius refers to the inside face, outside face or centreline.

Also define:

· Arc length or angle

· Number of segments

· Joint positions

· Required profile continuity

· Tolerance expected at connections

· Template or site-measurement responsibility

If the geometry is still under design, identify it as preliminary. This allows the supplier to give a budget direction without mistaking the drawing for production approval.

Visible faces and finish

A component may have one visible face, several exposed sides or a concealed back. The quotation and inspection scope can change accordingly.

Mark all visible faces and identify the required finish. If the profile includes a curved face, groove or return, confirm whether the same finish must continue across it.

For Moonlight Beige Limestone, shaped faces can reveal fossils and natural pores differently from a flat slab face. A representative component or finish sample may therefore be more useful than a flat sample alone.

Tolerances and acceptance

Do not copy tolerances from another material or project without checking whether they fit the component geometry and installation system.

The responsible project team should define critical dimensions and installation tolerances. The supplier can then confirm whether the proposed fabrication approach can be discussed against those requirements.

Where dimensions depend on site conditions, state who is responsible for final site measurement and drawing approval.

Component schedule and quantities

Blurred limestone component schedule reviewed beside separated physical part types

The schedule should connect each drawing type to a quantity.

Useful fields include:

· Component code

· Drawing number

· Description

· Dimensions

· Quantity

· Finish

· Visible faces

· Edge or profile reference

· Location or sequence

· Notes for special packing

Separate standard repeated pieces from left-hand, right-hand, end, corner and return pieces.

Packing and installation sequence

If the site needs pieces delivered by elevation, floor, zone or installation sequence, communicate that before the packing plan is prepared.

Late changes to crate grouping can increase handling and create identification problems. The requested numbering logic should relate to the approved component schedule or drawings.

The supplier prepares the stone and packing information. The local project team remains responsible for site access, unloading, storage, lifting, substrate readiness, fixing and installation unless a different written scope is agreed.

A practical file package

For an efficient first review, send:

1. PDF drawings for readable reference

2. DWG or other editable geometry where available

3. BOQ or component schedule

4. Material name: Moonlight Beige Limestone

5. Finish

6. Thickness

7. Quantity

8. Project location and destination port

9. Required delivery timing

10. Reference photographs where they clarify design intent

Remove or mask confidential information that is not required for supplier review.

What happens after the first review?

PDF drawings, CAD file, BOQ, material reference and finish sample prepared for limestone review

A useful drawing review should identify missing information before a quotation is treated as final. It may produce questions about radii, visible faces, joints, quantities, finish, thickness, templates or packing sequence.

That is not unnecessary delay. It is evidence that the custom component is being treated as a buildable object rather than a generic stone shape.
